Our Team

Allen Adriani has extensive experience in hydrogen and fuel cells, contributing significantly to improving clean energy technologies. With over two decades of experience, he holds a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer in five states. Allen has demonstrated his ability to successfully manage complex projects, collaborate with stakeholders, and oversee the design, development, and validation of hydrogen and fuel cell and process equipment. He has patents and publications illustrating his technical proficiency and research capabilities. Throughout his career, Allen has focused on cutting-edge technologies such as hydrogen systems, compressed gases, fuel cells, and combustions. At Fuel Cell Energy, he designed, manufactured, installed, and operated multimegawatt fuel cells. Additionally, he managed the hydrogen infrastructure group of 34 process and mechanical engineers at Plug Power. This work included the development of hydrogen infrastructure to provide hydrogen for forklifts, buses, trucks, and stationary fuel cell power applications.

David D. Brengel, Ph.D., is a consultant at RES, bringing over 30 years of technical expertise with a commitment to clean energy, especially in hydrogen and fuel cells. He earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. David began his career at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. as a Lead Engineer, eventually becoming Program Manager and leading a $29 million Department of Energy project on solid oxide fuel cells. At Avalence LLC, he developed high-pressure electrolyzers and later improved gas handling systems at Airgas R&D.

As Process Engineering Manager at Plug Power, he oversaw hydrogen supply system design and safety analysis. David's diverse expertise includes system design and fluid mechanics, and he holds multiple patents. Known for effective communication, he promotes safety and operational excellence while inspiring the next generation of engineers in sustainable energy solutions.

Mike is a consultant at RES who is a highly experienced mechanical and process piping designer, possessing over 25 years of expertise across multiple industries, including power generation, air separation, wastewater treatment, and civil engineering. He previously served as a Principal Designer at Plug Power, where he was responsible for developing and maintaining P&ID drawing sets utilizing AutoCAD, along with creating process lead sheets and safety device schematics. In this role, he also functioned as a design checker, ensuring the precision of P&IDs, CAD 3D skid models, and piping assembly drawings while summarizing any identified inconsistencies.

Additionally, Mike was the Manager of Power Plant Design at FuelCell Energy in Danbury, Connecticut. In this capacity, he oversaw the Balance of the Plant Design Group for commercial fuel cell power plants, implementing streamlined processes to meet stringent project timelines. He led the design package for the DFC300, DFC1500, DFC3000 and SureSource 4000 Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell power plants, which involved the coordination of mechanical, piping, structural, and electrical drawings to achieve a comprehensive and integrated design solution.

FuelCell Energy

Allen led the engineering group responsible for the process and equipment engineering of FuelCell Energy's Trigeneration Plant, which generated power and produced hydrogen.

Under the direction of Allen, his group led the design of a wastewater biogas clean-up skid to remove all the sulfur and siloxane from the gas stream. The skid boosted the pressure up to be able to feed into the FuelCell's Energy 1.4MW power plant.

At FuelCell Energy, we led the effort to design a 3.7MW power plant at 60% electrical efficiency. This includes designing many custom heat exchangers and a recovery water system.
