Front End Loading (FEL)

Front End Loading (FEL), also known as Front End Engineering and Design (FEED), is used in the chemical and petrochemical industries to assess and implement engineering projects. River Energy Solutions (RES) supports clients at every stage of the FEL process, from FEL 1 to FEL 3, and into detailed engineering and project execution. With each phase of in the FEL process, we sharpen our strategies, dedicating ourselves to uncovering the most effective solutions tailored just for our clients.

FEL or FEED

  • FEL 1: Initial Phase
    • Client-driven phase focused on the business case and project impact.
    • Development of process deliverables, including redlined design basis document, plant layouts, PFDs and P&IDs.
    • Client reviews the FEL 1 package with stakeholders to decide on progression to FEL 2.
  • FEL 2: Engineering Development
    • Further development of engineering deliverables with additional disciplines involved.
    • Evaluation of alternative solutions to ensure optimal project scope.
    • Assessment of long-lead items for potential early orders if proceeding to FEL 3 and Detailed Design.
  • FEL 3: Final Phase
    • All engineering disciplines advance deliverables for a final total installed estimate.
    • Process engineering creates Design Basis document, PFDs, P&IDs, and Line List deliverables to Issued for Design status.
    • Opportunity to place orders for additional equipment and long-lead instruments and electrical equipment before Detailed Design stage
